Christopher Gibbs
Chairman
Chris Gibbs resides in Salem Township where he owns and operates 560 acres of row crops and cattel in Shelby and Logan Counties. He is a lifelong resident of Shelby County and has served as Chairperson for the Shelby County Ohio Democratic Party since September 2023.
Gibbs in involved in rural advocacy through Rural
Voices USA and Rural Voices Network and also serves as President of the Gateway Arts Council representing the Shelby County Region.

Rita Schemmel
Vice Chair
Rita was elected Vice President of the Shelby County Democratic Party in January 2025.
She was born and raised in Shelby County on a farm near Botkins OH the daughter of Tom and Janet Becker.
Rita graduated from Botkins High School and Dettmer Hospital School of Certified Laboratory Assistants. She worked at Lima Memorial Hospital for 10 years. She started working in the United States Postal Service in 1988. During her career in the Postal Service, Rita was honored to be appointed Postmaster in Kettlersville, Conover, Maplewood and Jackson Center. She retired from the USPS in 2019.
Rita and her husband, Tony have been married for 47 years. They have 3 sons, Todd, Andrew, and TJ and are blessed with a granddaughter, Bianca. Rita is a member of the Auxiliary at Wilson Memorial Hospital and enjoys playing pickleball at the Sidney, Shelby County Senior Center.

Bethanne Spires
Secretary
Bethanne is a life long resident of Shelby County. She has served as Secretary of the Shelby County Ohio Democratic Party since September 2023.
Bethanne received her bachelor's and Master's degree from Wright State University. She retired in 2017 from Sidney High School where she taught Spanish for 25 years. She taught at Fairlawn and Lehman prior to that. She also served as an Adjunct Instructor at Edison State CC. Bethanne is a member of Kiwanis and volunteers at the Guys with Ties and Girls with Pearls program. She is also a proud grandma to her 3 year old grandaughter, Ostara.
